Rex Burkhead set a Nebraska record in last Friday’s win over Iowa by carrying the ball 38 times for 160 yards. His 38 carries broke the school record of 37 by Cory Ross in the 2003 Alamo Bowl, as Burkhead went over 100 yards for the seventh time this season and 11th time in his career. It was a record he didn’t want to break, but was urged by his linemen to do it for them.
Rex did a lot for that senior class last Friday and he was ready to give his best for a senior class that he admires. Also, one of the big reasons that Burkhead got that rushing record is he knew right away that Taylor Martinez was banged up and knew the coaches would call on him to step up his play.
