The Salvation Army in Omaha is packing up the mobile canteens. The first run of the Winter Night Watch program is tonight. Spokesperson Susan Eustice says two canteens will hit the streets. One will run Monday through Friday and visit various locations in central and downtown Omaha. A second mobile canteen will run Monday, Wednesday and Friday to areas in south Omaha.
The canteen volunteers provide hot meals to up to 400 people each night. They also hand out gloves, coats, hats and mittens to those without.
This is the 23rd season for the Winter Night Watch. It runs through the end of February.
