For 55 years people would travel from many states to Omaha for concerts, sporting events, trade shows to the circus at the Civic Auditorium. A new study shows the facility needs a lot of renovation work totaling $28-million. Roger Dixon is with the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority, the group that oversees the facility and says one of the main concerns is the heating and cooling system and the roof. There are other mechanical and plumbing issues that also need replacement.
Dixon says they do have contracts for the facility so it will remain operational for now. The city of Omaha has the final say regarding the future of the Civic. They are reviewing the study now and have not made a decision on the repairs.
