A two-year-old boy died in a crash on I-80 near the Waverly Interchange Saturday evening when a semi-tractor trailer ran into the back of a car, perhaps because of the winter storm that hit Nebraska this weekend.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports that 2-year-old Robert A. Curry of Bellevue died at a Lincoln hospital from injuries suffered in the accident.
The patrol reports that the semi, driving east on the interstate, crashed into the back of the car. The two-year-old and his father, 35-year-old Robert J. Curry, had to be extricated from the car. The father was treated and released from BryanLGH-West Hospital. His mother and his one-year-old sister were treated and released. All were properly restrained, according to the patrol.
The truck driver, 52-year-old Leamon Pierce of Claymont, DE wasn’t injured in the crash, but his co-driver, 24-year-old James Fryer of Chester, PA was treated and released at the hospital.
The patrol continues to investigate the crash. It is believed weather might have played a role.
