Lincoln Pius X will go back to Class A for at least the next two years in football despite a drop in enrollment. The Nebraska School Activities Association released enrollment figures showing Pius X’s enrollment went from 838 down to 824 for grades 9th-11th. However the Thunderbolts moved ahead of South Sioux City and Columbus and will take the 28th and final spot for Class A football.
The classifications will be certified in a board meeting in January. Should everything go through as planned, Pius-X would be in District 2.
The classification figures will be certified at the Jan. 13 board meeting. Assuming these numbers don’t change and the rules regarding placing teams in districts don’t change, the Class A football districts next year would be:
District 1 — Grand Island, Lincoln North Star, Lincoln High, Kearney, Fremont, North Platte.
District 2 — Lincoln Southeast, Lincoln Southwest, Lincoln Northeast, Lincoln East, Norfolk, Lincoln Pius X.
District 3 — Omaha Central, Millard West, Millard South, Omaha Bryan, Bellevue East, Omaha Northwest.
District 4 — Millard North, Omaha Burke, Omaha North, Bellevue West, Papillion-La Vista.
District 5 — Omaha South, Creighton Prep, Omaha Westside, Papillion-La Vista South, Omaha Benson.
