There was another murder in Omaha just before midnight Tuesday night. 30 year old Lynell Green was gunned down inside a home at 33rd and Larimore. Earlier in the day city council members and other community leaders held a news conference that focused on the violence in the city. Councilman Ben Gray says more collaborative efforts are underway in his district to fight the violence. Councilman Gray says more involvement from neighborhood associations, community groups and churches and better communication with Omaha Police is critical to making streets safer.
Willie Barney is the spokesman for the Empowerment Network and says there are many pieces of the puzzle in putting a stop to this violence. He says employment, education, housing re-development and more opportunities will make a difference.
Along with the murder at 33rd and Larimore Tuesday night 26-year-old Terrance Marshall was critically injured in a separate shooting at 95th and Park Drive. He was taken to a hospital by private vehicle but officers were told by witnesses they heard six shots fired and two vehicles speed away. Police at this time are not looking for suspects but are not saying why.
