It isn’t just Santa who is busy this year. Pediatricians and physicians across the state are booked as the holidays near. Dr. Rick Rolston is a pediatrician at Pediatric Express Care in Omaha and CEO of Alegent Health Clinic. He says their urgent-care facility has been busy seeing children suffering from seasonal respiratory illness that includes a runny nose, cough and congestion. He says physicians at the clinic are also seeing their share of ear infections, sinus infections and several cases of strep throat.
Dr. Rolston says it isn’t uncommon for people to become ill during the holidays. They don’t take time to eat properly and don’t get enough rest. They also don’t focus on hand washing as much as they should and they are exposed to many more people while shopping, at holiday parties and children’s events.
There is good news. Dr. Rolston says physicians in the Omaha metro area have not seen the flu bug… yet. He says they will likely see cases after the holidays.
