For the first time in program history, the Creighton men’s basketball program will open Missouri Valley Conference play as a nationally-ranked team. The Bluejays (10-1) moved up in both major polls on Monday. The Bluejays are up two spots to No. 21 in the Associated Press poll, while they jumped two slots to 19th in the coaches poll.
Creighton opens Missouri Valley Conference play with a Wednesday night home vs. defending Valley champ Missouri State. While this is the sixth different season in program history the team has been ranked, CU has never opened Valley play with a national ranking to its credit.
Creighton’s No. 21 ranking marks the fourth straight week its been listed in the Associated Press poll, CU’s longest run since being ranked for 15 straight weeks in the 2002-03 campaign. This is the first time in program history the team has been ranked exactly 21st in the AP poll.
Creighton is in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll for the sixth straight week. The Jays broke into the poll at No. 25 on Nov. 21st, and have been 22nd, 17th, 24th, 21st and now 19th since then.
In addition to Wednesday’s home game with Missouri State, Creighton will also visit Wichita State on Saturday at 5 pm.
