If you are a New Year’s resolution maker, Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha’s Exercise Physiologist Kristina Volkmer has some advice if your goal is to lose weight. She says New Year’s resolutions work if you go in to it with a plan. A lot of times New Year’s resolutions fail because set too lofty goals and set our sites too high.
Volkmer says weight loss doesn’t happen overnight but the important thing is to get started. She also recommends you write down goals and share that information with friends. Studies show having a support system helps keep motivation high.
Volkmer says other tips include:
– Don’t deprive yourself of the food you like as it just causes frustration but limit the portions.
– If you have to eat fast food, look for healthy choices including salad.
– Use herbs and spices instead of salt.
– Plan fun physical activity like bowling, skating or swimming.
