State troopers arrested more than 100 drivers for drunk driving during the past month as Nebraska participated in a national campaign to crack down on driving drunk.
Nebraska troopers charged 121 motorists with driving-while-intoxicated during the “You Drink & Drive You Lose” campaign which ran from December 2nd through New Year’s Day. Troopers also issued 111 Driving Under Suspension citations and 74 citations for No Proof of Insurance. Also, troopers cited 264 seat belt citations and warnings as well as 49 child restraint citations and warnings.
Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins says the point of participating in the campaign wasn’t about the arrests, it was about awareness.
“We’re wanting voluntary compliance,” Collins says. “We’re out there. We’re wanting folks not to drink and drive, not drive distracted and obey the laws.”
Troopers also assisted 527 travelers with car trouble.
