A former guard at the Omaha prison has been arrested, accused of sexually abusing an inmate.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services reports that 27-year-old Anthony Hansen was arrested by the Nebraska State Patrol without incident. The department placed Hansen on unpaid suspension December 14, 2011 and began an investigation of accusations that Hansen abused an inmate at the Omaha Correctional Center. Hansen resigned yesterday. He began employment with the department since 2006.
Hansen has been charged with Sexual Abuse of an Inmate in the first degree. He is incarcerated in the Douglas County jail.
“Our Department has zero tolerance for sexual relationships with inmates.” said NDCS Director Bob Houston said in a written statement. “Staff receive specific training regarding sexual contact with inmates. Nebraska state law is clear that consent plays no role in the prison setting. When staff sexual misconduct is alleged or suspected, our Department acts swiftly to protect the inmate.”
