Fewer people in Nebraska will be going to bed tonight hungry thanks to a donation from grocery chain No Frills Supermarkets. They along with Smart Chicken donated two tons of food to two food pantries in the Omaha metro area that will help feed families in need.
Melanie Jones is a disabled vet and she and her family of six live on a very limited income. She receives assistance from the Heartland Hope Mission. Jones says the Mission provides her with food, clothing and toiletries and if it wasn’t for their help she and her family would be eating beans.
Together Incorporated also benefited from the donation. Both organizations say the number of requests for food and other assistance has grown 30-percent in recent months and they expect that trend to continue.
