The Huskers (9-4) were ranked No. 24, dropping three spots after their 30-13 bowl loss to South Carolina. It’s the third consecutive season NU has been ranked in the final poll, but a trend of moving down the rankings continued.
Last year, Nebraska was 20th and the Huskers were 14th in 2009. Alabama was voted No. 1 for the eighth time, tying Notre Dame for the most of any team in college football. The Tide received 54 first-place votes and No. 2 LSU got one. Big 12 champion Oklahoma State (12-1) was No. 3 and received four first-place votes. Oregon finished fourth and Arkansas was fifth, giving the SEC three of the top five teams in the country. South Carolina finished ninth.
