Former Husker kicker Al Eveland died Monday at the age of 58 after battling cancer for more than two years. An Ames, Neb native, Eveland was a standout high school running back and kicker at North Bend High School. He was a member of Tom Osborne’s first recruiting class at Nebraska and at one point, Eveland was once among the top 20 scorers all-time at Nebraska.
Eveland played at NU from 1974-76 and tied the Husker record for most field goals in a season in 1976 on 11 of 17 attempts. He was named second-team All-Big Eight that season.
