The 20th-ranked Nebraska softball team opened the season with a 4-0 loss to #12 Washington at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. Huskie pitcher Kaitly Inglesby pitched a two hit shutout and she also went 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs in shutting down the Huskers.
All-American Taylor Edwards and senior Madison Drake recorded the Huskers’ lone hits. Edwards was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, while Drake was 1-for-3 with a single. Senior Ashley Guile also reached base on a walk. Pitcher Ashley Hageman threw a complete game in the loss. After allowing five walks, four hits and one hit batter to the first 14 batters she faced, Hagemann settled down and retired eight of her final nine batters.
NU plays again Friday at 5:30 central against #8 Arizona.
