The number 16 came into play many times last night in Minnesota. Jordan Hooper scored 16 of her team-high 20 points in the second half to lead the 16th ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team back from a 16-point second-half deficit, but the Huskers unable to score from there and lose 64-58 at Minnesota, their second loss in a row.
NU tied the game at 58-58 on Kaitlyn Burke’s layup with 3:17 to play. The Huskers had a few attempts to take the lead, but came up empty-handed. Hooper missed an open 12-footer, that was rebounded by Emily Cady to give Burke an open shot from 10 feet on the opposite side, but she missed. After another defensive stop, Hooper missed a three point try that was rebounded by Brandi Jeffery. She was fouled and missed the front end of a one-and-one with 1:19 left. At the other end, Minnesota converted an offensive rebound after a miss to go up 60-58 with one minute left.
The NU women host Northwestern on Thursday.
