Authorities say a shooting and a suicide Thursday evening in Fremont likely stemmed from a domestic dispute. Just after 8:45 police were called to 1st and Union Streets after they received a report of gunfire. Police found a 23 year old female suffering from several gunshot wounds to the face. As officers tended to her needs they received word that the suspect was still in the area.
Deputy Chief Elliot says police then set up a perimeter and soon heard a gunshot. They found the suspect, 22 year old Garrett Corn dead of a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to the Fremont Area Medical Center and then transferred to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. At last check she remained in critical condition.
Authorities believe the shootings stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Fremont police were assisted by members of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska State Patrol and Omaha Police Department’s helicopter unit.
