The process has begun to have the founder of Boys Town considered for sainthood. Omaha Archbishop George Lucas Monday placed a notice on the doors of St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha to alert the public that a cause for sainthood will be opened for Father Edward Flanagan.
Archbishop Lucas stated a group of theologians and historians will take a detailed look at Father Flanagan’s life, his writings and relationships and put together case that will be reviewed. He is confident that as the examination goes on they will find more and more testimony that will lead us to believe that Father Flanagan is truly a saint. This investigation will take many years to complete.
Father Flanagan founded Boys Town in 1917. He passed away in 1948.
