A celebrity with Nebraska roots is coming back to the Cornhusker state to attend a benefit for a nonprofit cinema in Omaha dedicated to enhancing the cultural environment of the city and state. If you watched the Oscars last week you saw director Alexander Payne receive an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for “The Descendants”. The Omaha native is also on the board of directors for Film Streams and Rachel Jacobsen, director of the Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater says he extended the invitation to Fonda.
Jane Fonda’s father, actor Henry Fonda was born in Grand Island but his family moved to Omaha when he was an infant. He started acting on the stage of the Omaha Community Playhouse. Jacobsen says his daughter Jane followed in his footsteps, literally and also performed at the Playhouse. Both Jane and Henry Fonda were in back in Omaha for the premier of “On Golden Pond” at the Orpheum Theater.
“Feature IV” is May 13th. Fonda will take center state in the Holland Performing Arts Center at 6:30 for a conversation about her career on stage and screen. There is also a post-party celebration following the program. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, March 28th. Details are available at filmstreams.org.
