Nebraska Democrats have sent out a news release announcing that former United States Sen. Bob Kerrey and University of Nebraska Regent Chuck Hassebrook will make a joint announcement this morning.
The news release gives credence to growing speculation that Hassebrook will drop out of the Democratic primary. The announcement comes on the heels of Hassebrook’s cancellation of a fund-raiser in Lincoln. Hassebrook had scheduled a fund-raiser in downtown Lincoln at Zen’s. It has been cancelled. There has been no notice it will be rescheduled.
Kerrey had upset Hassebrook by his decision to enter the Democratic primary after first stating he wouldn’t be a candidate. Hassebrook had stated he sought Kerrey’s assurance he wouldn’t run before deciding against running for re-election as a regent to enter the United States Senate race.
