The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a hearing with Omaha Public Power District officials regarding their progress in making necessary improvements at the Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant. Victor Dricks is the Public Affairs Officer for the N-R-C and says this stems from the fact the Ft. Calhoun Plant was moved into a special category of oversight.
The last year has not been an easy one for O-P-P-D and the facility located between Blair and Omaha along the Missouri River. The plant shut down about a year ago for regular refueling. During that time there was a fire last June, then the massive Missouri River flood and earlier this month many of their emergency sirens failed to operate during tests.
Dricks says it is time once again to get an update on OPPD’s improvement plan, organizational changes and their 2012 flooding season readiness and preparations plan. The public is invited to as questions at the end of the information meeting.
It will be held April 4th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Blair High School auditorium.
