With three days of hearings regarding the health care law, the U-S Supreme Court has until June to decide whether all or part of the law is constitutional. U-S Senator Mike Johanns says if the law is found unconstitutional lawmakers will need to work together to develop new legislation.
Senator Johanns would like to see several issues brought up in drafting new legislation. He stated there is nothing in the bill regarding tort reform. He would also like to see farmers and ranchers in states that border Nebraska be allowed to pool together for insurance purposes instead of just being able to insure their own family. He states this would create competition and bring the cost of their insurance down.
Senator Johanns would also like to see flexible spending accounts and explore the deductibility of insurance because that gives people an economic benefit. He also believes this issue needs to be taken one step at a time instead of trying to solve the problem with one block of legislation.
