State troopers seized more than 34 pounds of marijuana and 4.8 pounds of cocaine in two separate traffic stops.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports a trooper stopped a minivan on I-80 in Buffalo County near the Elm Creek interchange late Saturday morning for failing to signal and discovered the marijuana stuffed in two hidden compartments in the roof of the vehicle. The driver, 29-year-old Juan Moreno of Hanover, Illinois, and a passenger, 28-year-old Jorge Gomez of Lyons, Illinois, have been charged with intent to sell. Both are incarcerated in the Buffalo County Jail.
Earlier in the weekend, another trooper stopped a car traveling east on Highway 2, four miles east of Syracuse, for failing to signal. The trooper found nearly five pounds of cocaine under the rear-seat of the car. 35-year-old Juan Miguel Mendez Velazquez of Tijuana, Mexico has been charged with intent to sell. He was taken to the Otoe County Jail.
