Hackers might have had access to more data at the University of Nebraska than first thought.
University officials disclosed Friday that a data breach of the Nebraska Student Information System exposed the financial information of as many as 30,000 students, including Social Security numbers, addresses, even grades and transcripts.
The university reports a technical staff member with the university uncovered the breach which was sealed within hours of its discovery. Students have been notified. Others are being contacted.
Contacting others could prove a chore. University officials have disclosed that records for as many as 650,000 students, alumni and applicants to all four campuses might have been accessed.
