Kearney native Ryan Sheldon threw seven shutout innings, while allowing just five hits and struck out seven as the Lincoln Saltdogs beat the Laredo Lemurs 4-0 at Haymarket Park Tuesday night. Sheldon improved to 2-0 in his third start of the season, and did not allow any Lemurs into scoring position after the first inning.
Brad Payne put the Saltdogs on the board with an RBI triple with two outs in the fourth. Lincoln added some more in the sixth on a two-run, opposite field home run by John Alonso, his fifth of the season. Alonso has now driven in 19 runs in 12 games played so far this season, leading the American Association in both long balls and RBI.
