Nebraska State Patrol investigators will review the procedures used when a Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s deputy shot out the tire of a pick-up and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving drunk.
The patrol reports the driver refused to stop when the deputy attempted to pull him over on Highway 26 Monday evening between Scottsbluff and Minatare. The driver fled. The deputy pursued until the pick-up pulled over. When the deputy pulled his car in behind the pick-up, the driver put the pick-up into reverse and backed into the deputy’s car. The deputy shot out the front driver’s side tire.
Scott Bluff County deputies took 45-year-old Tad Shelly of Gering into custody, charged with Driving Under the Influence, Driving Under Suspension, Flight to Avoid Arrest and Resisting Arrest. He is incarcerated in the Scotts Bluff County jail.
The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office requested the Nebraska State Patrol investigate the incident.
