Creighton junior pitcher Ty Blach was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday. Blach, the 178th pick overall, went 6-6 with a 2.69 earned-run average in 21 starts. He struck out 100 last season and 83 this year and
is Creighton’s highest draft pick since Ryan Gripp signed with the Chicago Cubs in the third round in 1999.
Nebraska top baseball recruit, Justin Black, will sign a contract with the Atlanta Braves for $300,000 plus the cost of his college education and turn down a scholarship offer from the Huskers. Black is a center fielder from Billings (Mont.) West High School, and was chosen in the fourth round by the Braves.
