Max Whieldon and four other pitchers combined to allow just four hits as the Sioux City Explorers (10-13) shutout the Saltdogs (11-13) 3-0 in front of 3,633 fans at Haymarket Park Sunday evening.
Whieldon (2-2) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on three hits while walking two and fanning three to earn the victory. Geno Glynn, Eddie Delacruz, and Andrew Snowdon chipped in with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless middle relief before Chris Bodishbaugh finished it off in the ninth to book his third save.
Pete Parise (3-2) pitched seven innings, allowing two earned on seven hits while striking out two to suffer the tough-luck loss. Parise retired 12 consecutive batters at one point. The Saltdogs were blanked for the third time this season, and managed a season-low four hits.
