A new study shows the arts and culture industry generates $175-million in economic activity in the state of Nebraska and supports more than 6,400 jobs. Marjorie Maas is the director of Nebraskans for the Arts and she crunched the numbers. She says there is a proof that the arts benefit communities and these numbers are very conservative.
Maas says about half of the states $175-million economic impact is generated in Omaha which isn’t surprising. She says that is a percentage we can talk to our state lawmakers about and that is a great advocacy tool. Nearly half of the jobs the arts and culture industry generates is also in the Omaha area.
Twenty-eight non-profit groups participated in this year’s study.
