The Guard’s 1-376th Aviation Battalion dispatched one of its UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and a four-man crew to the Fort Collins area.
Already, those wildfires have forced the evacuation of several thousand people.
The Nebraska guardsmen will be using what’s called a “Bambi” bucket. The 660-gallon container can scoop up water from local sources, like lakes and rivers, and dump it directly on the flames.
The copter and crew left Lincoln on Tuesday and they will likelly be deployed for about two weeks.
