A University of Nebraska Lincoln assistant professor who is a Chinese citizen and was believed detained in China is returning to Lincoln.
UNL Senior International Officer for Academic Affairs David Wilson says that they learned late yesterday that Weixing Li called his family to say he will be returning to the U.S. as soon as flight arrangements can be made.
Li was accompanying a group of UNL students on a study abroad trip when he turned up missing.
UNL officials say Li’s family told them that he was being detained by Chinese authorities, but they did not know why.
Wilson says they have no further details, and their attempts to reach him have been unsuccessful.
Wilson says they’re glad he is safe.
