The U-S Secretary of the Navy officially named a new combat ship after the city of Omaha today. Secretary Ray Mabus joined other dignitaries at Louis & Clark Landing in Omaha Monday morning for the naming ceremony for the USS Omaha.
Secretary Mabus stated the new USS Omaha is “very fast and a modular ship you can pull one weapon system off and put another on so as technology changes we don’t have to build another ship.”
This is the fourth ship named after Omaha. It is currently under construction and will enter the fleet in 2016.
