Even though parts of Nebraska could see some rain today UNL Extension Educator for Douglas County John Fech says lawns and gardens are really suffering due to the drought. He says if you decide to let your lawn go dormant it will still need some water. Fech suggests watering lawns every 15 to 20 days with about a half inch of water. If you are trying to keep your lawn Fech says there are two basic rules. The first is keep the roots moist and always water to the bottom of the root.
Vegetable gardens are another story. Fech says don’t skimp on the water. He recommends using a soaker hose to conserve water. Fech says trees and shrubs also need help right now and he also recommends using a soaker hose or irrigation system.
