The Nebraska Beef packing house near 36th and H Streets in south Omaha shut down its operations after a 24-inch water main broke early this morning. Mark Doyle is the Senior Vice President of Metropolitan Utilities District and says this break sent a tremendous amount of water into the street. There were unofficial reports of water 10-feet deep in some areas.
Doyle says crews first shut off the water flow to the area and then started working on the necessary repairs to get Nebraska Beef up and running. Three homes were evacuated and damage assessment teams were sent to evaluate the situation.
The area of 36th and H Streets will be shut down to traffic for quite some time due to pavement buckling.
