Nebraskans and Iowans are heading south to help the victims of Tropical Storm Isaac.
Alison Westby-Roach with the Nebraska – Southwest Iowa Region says more than 20 volunteers are heading to Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi and will join more than 1,000 others currently on standby. All four of Nebraska’s Emergency Response Vehicles are also headed to that region with food, water and other supplies volunteers may need in this emergency. More deployments are likely.
The Red Cross now has a free Hurricane App that features the one-touch “I’m Safe” button. When pressed, the person can use social media outlets to let family and friends know they are safe. The app can be found in the Apple App Store and at the Google Play Store for Android users.
Westby-Roach says it may not be too much longer that a similar app can be downloaded that is tornado specific.
