The driver of a golf cart has been arrested after a passenger fell off and was critically hurt.
Gage County Sheriff Millard “Gus” Gustafson says they arrested 50-year-old Bryan Hill of Filley on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
The accident happened early Sunday morning near Rockford Lake, southeast of Beatrice. Sheriff Gustafson says the passenger who fell is identified as 30-year-old Dan Whitlinger of Beatrice.
Gustafson says the possibility of other charges will depend partly on Whitlinger’s injuries.
He says there were four people riding in the golf cart, including the driver. Gustafson says Whitlinger was one of the rear passengers, on a portion of the cart where golf clubs are carried.
Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the scene just before 3am on Sunday, and a Beatrice fire and rescue unit was dispatched to the scene. Monday, a rescue department spokesman said the injured man suffered a serious closed-head wound.
Whitlinger is listed in critical condition, at the Bryan LGH West trauma center, in Lincoln
