Park Ranger Merrith Baughman says Nye’s appearance is in correspondance with the exhibit, “From Longships to Spaceships: 1,000 Years of Exploration.”
“This exhibit was part of the Planetary Society and Bill Nye is a member of the Planetary Society and we thought, wouldn’t it be fabulous if we could get Bill Nye to come?” Baughman says. “We’ve been working on this for months.”
Nye will be doing all sorts of experiments and talking about sustainability. His mission is to help people understand and appreciate how science can help us live on the planet with the least impact.
Nye is a scientist, engineer, comedian, author and inventor who’s known to millions of PBS and Science Channel viewers.
Baughman, at the Homestead National Monument of America in Beatrice, is expecting a large audience for the Sunday afternoon presenatation.
“It’s going to be outside in the courtyard and it looks like we’ll have beautiful weather,” Baughman says. “We’ll open up seating at noon, so if folks want to come early and put their coats down on chairs, have a picnic lunch, visit the monument, it’s a beautiful time of year to walk the trails.”
There will be live music starting at 1 PM with Nye’s presentation starting at 2. The event is free.
