An Omaha couple has been arrested, charged with crossing the state line to set a house on fire in western Iowa in late 2010.
Six people were in the house at the time of the fire. They escaped unharmed.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety reports that 27-year-old William Kautter and his 29-year-old wife, Elizabeth, have both been charged with first-degree arson. William Kautter has also been charged with six counts of attempted murder.
Officials say William Kautter had made numerous harassing telephone calls and had even threatened to hurt or kill the family.
The fire occurred the evening of December 14th, 2010 in Atlantic. An investigation determined gasoline had been poured on the porch and front door of the home.
The department reports that cell phone records indicate the Kautters traveled to Iowa the night of the fire and that Elizabeth Kautter had bought gas at an Atlantic area station that evening.
