If you have a freezer you may want to stock up on meat now. Because of high feed costs, cattle producers reduced inventory recently and that bumped up supplies. Ricky Volpe is a USDA Food Price Economist and says the prices you see at the meat case now won’t be around for long. He says beef, pork and poultry prices are as low as they are going to go and it won’t be long before they start to climb.
Volpe says and when you throw inflation, lower inventories and a high worldwide demand into the mix that only means prices will go up from here. Even if cattle producers increase production now we won’t see an increase in beef supplies until at least 2016.
