Democrat Bob Kerrey has conceded defeat in his attempt to regain his United States Senate seat in Nebraska.
Kerrey called Republican Deb Fischer to congratulate her on winning the seat now held by Sen. Ben Nelson, a Democrat who is retiring from public office.
Kerrey told his supporters gathered at the Embassy Suites in La Vista to join him in wishing Fischer well as the next United States Senator from Nebraska.
With nearly 77% of the precincts reporting in to the Secretary of State and 562,000 ballots counted, Fischer held a commanding lead Kerrey just couldn’t overcome. Fischer leads the race late 57% to 43%; 343,024 votes to 254,574.
