Injuries on both the offensive and defensive line could affect Nebraska’s ability to control the line of scrimmage against Wisconsin. Offensive coordinator Tim Beck will be without starting center Justin Jackson who injured his ankle against Iowa and will rely on Mark Pelini and Cole Pensick. On the defensive line, Baker Steinkuhler injured his knee in the Iowa game and will miss Saturday. John Papuchis says filling Steinkuhler’s spot will be by committee.
The D-line has been thin this year and Papuchis will lean on Chase Rome, who left the team earlier in the year. Thaddeus Randle has been dealing with his own injuries and we haven’t seen much from redshirt freshman Kevin Williams (appeared in five games) or freshman Aaron Curry (four games).
While Pensick has played at the guard position on the offensive line, Beck says both he and Pelini will share time at center. Pelini was thrust into that position and played well despite not spending much competitive time at the center position. The more Pensick plays at center, the more Beck will have to rely on Seung Hoon Choi.
