A grisly discovery after a fire destroyed a mobile home in rural northeast Nebraska has led to the arrest of a Ewing man on suspicion of murder.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports firefighters discovered two bodies in a bedroom in the southwest corner of the residence in Antelope County, near Ewing.
33-year-old Matthew Hinrichsen of Ewing is being held in the Madison County jail without bond, suspected in the deaths of the two. Hinrichsen is also being questioned in connection with the fire.
According to the patrol, deputies from the Antelope and Holt County Sheriff’s Office along with state patrol troopers responded to a 911 call in the early hours of Saturday morning about a domestic dispute that possibly involved weapons. As they responded to that call, the Ewing Fire Department responded to a 911 call about the mobile home fire in the same vicinity.
Deputies also responded to the fire and questioned a man who escaped from the burning home, who informed them two others might still be inside. The man was not injured. Deputies eventually released him.
The bodies of the two victims were taken to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. No names are being released at this time.
The Nebraska State Patrol is assisting the Antelope County Attorney, the Antelope and Holt County Sheriff’s Offices and the State Fire Marshal in the investigation.
