A Nebraska teen-ager is expected to survive a gunshot wound to the head he suffered this weekend while pheasant hunting in Iowa with his father.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reports that 18-year-old Ryan Rearick of Omaha suffered a shotgun wound to the back of his head after a gun carried by his father, Christopher Rearick of Omaha, accidently fired.
Ryan Rearick was transported from Page County by Essex Fire and Rescue to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. A medical helicopter then took him to Creighton University Medical Center where he is reported in stable condition. He is expected to survive the wound.
The Page County Sheriff’s Department and Essex Fire and Rescue assisted the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in response to the incident which occurred around 10:30 Saturday morning. The shooting remains under the investigation of the Iowa DNR.
