Director of Development Joanne Bemis says their mobile canteens are out Monday through Friday in several locations where the homeless gather. They feed as many as 300 meals a night and Bemis says they are seeing a big increase in the number of children in line for meals. Last winter they served more than 18,300 meals and distributed more than 7,000 coats, hats, gloves and scarves.
Nebraskans who are making a trip to Omaha and have extra gently used coats and other warm items they want to get rid of can drop them off at any Omaha Fire Station. The Winter Night Watch runs through the end of February.
