Wayne State will host Chadron State on New Year’s Eve with tipoff set for 4:00 p.m. at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. It’s the final non-conference game of the season for the Wildcats, ranked 19th in the latest USA TODAY Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll released on December 18th.
The Wildcats are 6-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play entering the contest after splitting their last set of games with a 60-52 victory at Upper Iowa on December 14th while falling 74-35 at Winona State on December 15th. The Eagles are 1-8 overall and 1-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this afternoon’s game.
Rice Auditorium has proven to be a tough place for visiting teams to pick up a win. With the Wildcats defeating Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State at home last weekend, Wayne State has recorded 51 straight wins in Rice Auditorium.
Last season, WSC finished unbeaten at home for a third straight season going 16-0, the most wins at home by any team in school history. The 2010-11 season concluded with a perfect 12-0 record and in 2009-10, WSC was a perfect 15-0 at home. The only other team to go unbeaten at home in Wayne State women’s basketball history was the 1993-94 team coached by Mike Barry, going 12-0 at home on its way to a 22-5 record that season.
The last home loss for Wayne State was the fi nal game of the 2008-09 season when Southwest Minnesota State defeated the Wildcats in Rice Auditorium 67-62 on February 25, 2009.
The NCAA Division II record for most consecutive home wins is 87 by Nebraska-Kearney from January31, 1995 – November 24, 2001.
