Creighton men’s soccer assistant coach Johnny Torres earned Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for a second consecutive season.
Torres, who helped lead the Bluejays to a 17-4-3 record and their second consecutive appearance in a College Cup, is now a finalist for the National Assistant Coach of the Year Award which will be announced at the NSCAA Awards Banquet, in Indianapolis on Jan. 18.
Creighton won the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) regular-season and tournament titles for a second straight season. Along the way the Bluejays tied the MVC team record for the fewest goals allowed (one) in a Valley season set by CU in 2011.
Torres, an MVC and Creighton Hall of Famer, just completed his sixth season on the Creighton bench, during which time the Bluejays have gone 86-20-18, won five regular-season MVC titles, advanced to five NCAA tournaments and appeared in two College Cups.
