For the first time since 1994 lion cubs were born at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo.
Two males and three female cubs were born on December 29th. Four of the cubs are on display with their mother, Mifisha in the Cat Complex.
One of the female cubs is in the zoo’s hospital receiving care. Staff report she was smaller than the others and didn’t compete well for food. That cub is now being bottle fed and appears to be stronger but will remain in intensive care for the time being. When the cub is stable and gaining weight she will be introduced back with her mother and siblings.
The five cubs join the zoo’s four African lion adults, one male and three females.
