Omaha State Senator Jeremy Nordquist is ready for the start of the new legislative session and ready to introduce the Skin Cancer Prevention Act.
This would ban those under the age of 18 from utilizing tanning beds at salons.
Senator Nordquist says research shows that those to use tanning beds before the age of 35 the likelihood of developing a malignant melanoma nearly doubles. He says it increases to 87%.
Senator Nordquist says 33 states have restrictions in place that bans those under the age of 18 from using tanning beds. He says this is similar legislation that is in place for tobacco products, tattoos and piercing.
