All the talk about potential gun control in Washington might well have spur record attendance this weekend to the Davenport Gun Show.
The Hastings Tribune reports a record crowd of 500 turned out for the gun show sponsored by the Davenport Lions Club. Event chair Gary Miller tells the newspaper it is impossible to know what effect gun control measures discussed by President Barack Obama had on attendance, but Miller says most vendors report a spike in sales since gun control talks grew serious in Washington.
One vendor, Gordon Halbmeier of Bladen, tells the newspaper he believes the threat of gun control legislation has increased attendance at gun shows.
“Obama is the best gun salesman we’ve got,” Halbmeier told the Tribune. “Gun control is a joke. It’s all politics.”
