A mountain lion was unintentionally killed in the Panhandle last week.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reports the cougar died in a cable restraint trap in Scotts Bluff County Wednesday.
The mountain lion was a female. She weighed 81 pounds and appeared to have been in good health.
The commission says a trapper called Game and Parks to report the incident. An increase in pelt prices have increased efforts to trap bobcats, which might have contributed to the incidental capture of mountain lions, according to the Carnivore Program Manager with Games and Parks, Sam Wilson.
Game and Parks asks that any fur trappers contact it immediately if a mountain lion is accidentally trapped.
